When to go:
Deciding when to go to Mauritius isn’t too difficult: the island has a classic tropical climate with warm sunny weather virtually all year round.During the summer months (November to April) the days are long, hot and humid. This is also cyclone season with January to March being the wettest months – so if you do go on a Mauritius holiday at that time you should be prepared for some heavy rain.
Since it never really gets cold on the island in winter (May to October) the average temperature simply drops from sticky to balmy.So in general, the best time to visit Mauritius for cooler, drier weather is from May to December. That said, if you’re planning to stay on the east coast, we recommend avoiding the months of July and August as this is when the wind is at its strongest on this side of the island.

Local Transport:
In and around the city of Port Louis, the primary mode of public transport is via buses and taxis. Buses are the main source of transport in Mauritius, since each family of five has approximately one car and taxis can be very expensive. In comparison, there are about 4,000 taxis and 1,700 buses that run throughout the island. There are three types of bus companies; one of the companies is run by the National Transport Corporation and owns 430 buses. Another is private company with 445 buses. There are also 560 individual operators with 825 buses. Public transportation by bus is available between the main towns until 11:00 p.m. and in remote areas until 6 p.m.
